Metro Councilman Chandler Loupe’s 15-year-old son is expected to live after being shot in the chest Friday evening during an alleged drug deal, a police spokesman said.

The shooting took place in the 1600 block of Mary Lou Drive sometime between 5:30 p.m. and 5:55 p.m., Baton Rouge police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said Saturday.

The councilman’s son remained in a local hospital Saturday evening, McKneely said, in “stable but serious condition.”

Chandler Loupe, in an email Saturday night, said: “My son is still in ICU and we are asking for prayers.”

Police were dispatched to the scene about 6 p.m.

Emergency responders found two other male teenagers with Loupe at the scene.

The other two — one 17 years old, the other 15 — were not injured in the incident, McKneely said.

Police had not named or arrested any suspects in the shooting as of Saturday afternoon.

“They are still interviewing people, trying to get down to the bottom of it — it’s still under investigation,” McKneely said.

Police would not identify which of Loupe’s three sons was the shooting victim.

In the councilman’s official biography on the Metro Council website, he states his three sons are Chandler, 16; William, 14; and Thomas, 12.

It is unclear when that information was last updated.
