A suspect wanted in the shooting death of a toddler who was playing Sunday afternoon in the B.W. Cooper public housing development has been arrested, and a “person of interest” in the murder was shot to death Monday, New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas said Tuesday.

U.S. marshals arrested Narkee Hunter, 23, at his Terrytown home on Tuesday, Serpas said.

Police are still looking for another suspect, Terrious Owney, 24, in connection with the same shooting.

Charles Louis Anderson III, 26, whowas shot to death Monday inside a house in St. Roch, had been identified as a “person of interest” in Sunday’s shooting, Serpas said.

The Times-Picayune reported earlier today that detectives believed Anderson’s death on Monday was linked to the double shooting a day earlier, according to law enforcement sources.

Sources as well as the shooting victim’s mother said the double shooting stemmed from a beef between rival groups, including members of the notorious 3-N-G gang, whose moniker comes from their hangout at the intersection of Third and Galvez streets.

Police continue to look for a white 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe with Louisiana license plate VCC 068 in connection with Keira Holmes’ murder, Serpas said.

According to Allen’s mother and sources, the B.W. Cooper shooting stemmed from a beef between rival groups, including members of the notorious 3-N-G drug gang, whose moniker comes from their hangout at corner of Third and Galvez streets, located blocks away.

Keira, who was days shy of her second birthday, died, and 19-year-old Emmett Allen was injured when shots rang out Sunday about 4:30 p.m. in the 3300 block of Erato Street. Allen remained in critical condition Tuesday.

An early investigation revealed that Allen was walking in the area when gunmen in two vehicles began to fire at him. Allen ran into a courtyard where children played; the gunmen continued to fire, striking the toddler in the head.

Keira died a short time later at a local hospital.

Police are investigating the prospect that Anderson was shot Monday in retaliation for Sunday’s B.W. Cooper shooting, law enforcement sources told The Times-Picayune Tuesday.
